David lives in Ashby de la Zouch, land of Jaffa Cakes, Ivanhoe, the National Forest and Adrian Mole’s Cappuccino Years. He is a physicist and, after six years of being a research scientist for the Government, he worked for the Institute of Physics, where he spoke to over 55,000 people in 14 years about the subject. He also was part of the team that created the GirlGuiding “I am a Physicist” badge and wrote for Physics World magazine. In 2021 he started work at the National Space Centre in Leicester, where he runs the National Space Academy.
David is married, and it was his wife who eventually got weary of him talking about all the books he was going to write and told him to get on with it or shut up – buying him a place on a novel writing course for his birthday.
Writing science fiction in a universe he has been perfecting for decades, his stories are devoted to plot and characters. Influences range from Asimov, Niven-Pournelle and childhood science fiction through to the new style Battlestar Galactica and The Expanse. Having learned his trade with Writing East Midlands, he is now a member of the established Leicester Writers Club.
His debut novel We Bleed the Same was shortlisted for the East Midlands Book Award – a general award, which shows the cross-genre appeal of his writing.
David fills his time outside of authoring and his job with handling two 18+ offspring, cooking a lot, walking three tiny dogs, and continuing a four-year mission to visit all 76 cities in the UK.
