About

Inspired Quill is a literature based review and resource blog which has been carefully cultivated to remain accessible to anyone, regardless of whether they’re 22 or 52. The IQ team consider it of the utmost importance to keep the tone of our articles and reviews informative, thought provoking and light hearted.

The Longer Version

I opened the Inspired Quill blog in September 2009. The domain name had been sitting around doing nothing for about a year and a half beforehand and I really wanted to do something with it. My initial plan for the blog was to simply post book reviews, but after a very short time I decided to open it up to articles and news regarding literature. Why? Well, I was a University student and I figured I needed all the non-fiction writing help I could get.

And speaking of help…after going through a couple of months trying to update the site three times a week, I decided to offer writing positions to anyone who wanted to help out. A few people ended up just doing one or two posts, but I now have a few members of the writing team who have been consistently awesome for getting new content to me on a regular basis. All members of the writing team are both knowledgeable and passionate about literature, and use IQ as a means to both share their passion for books, and to also gain valuable (and otherwise difficult to come by) writing experience.

After attending a day’s seminar hosted by Doug Richard called ‘School for Startups’ a few months earlier, September 2010 ended up with mewinning an entrepreneurial award for Inspired Quill, which meant a series of business classes and 1-on-1 mentor help. Needless to say these things have been invaluable, and after starting to network and really get to grips with my niche, I registered IQ with Companies House as a ‘proper business’ in April of 2011. As of September 2011 (I see a trend developing here!) Inspired Quill will begin to operate fully as a Publishing House.

It’s odd, how some things float merrily along, and others tend to pull you by the scruff of your neck into new and exciting experiences and opportunities.
