I was going to apologise to you, dear reader, for not putting this up yesterday. But then, you see, I realised that I haven’t actually put anywhere on the site that I.Q. is regularly updated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. So I’m going to let myself off the hook just this once, before after I publish this article, I’m going to remedy that particular snippet of information on the ‘About us’ sidebar widget. Hurray for ‘to-do’ list expansion.
So in the fortnight since I last spoke to you, quite a lot has happened both for Inspired-Quill and for myself. I started my final year as an English undergraduate, studying at the University of Leicester, and have thus been socialising, joining societies and trying to figure out why my timetable is so sparse. (Independent learning + lots of reading + many essays? Ah, that’ll be why then!).
Being a committee member of the UoL English Society also seems to have its perks. For one, I’ve been granted permission to ‘sponsor’ the Society this year, through Inspired-Quill. This, as you can imagine dear reader, is a great boon for the website. Not only will it add to the credentials of the site, but it also means that it will gain a greater publicity around the University. Posters have been made (I’m not the best at photo manipulation, but they’re rather attention-grabbing, so that’s something in their favour at least) and are ready to be printed and put up around campus.
Also, after a few weeks of harassing every printing company I could get in touch with, I’ve finally found one that is the most cost effective and have ordered a number (alright, 5,000) bookmarks to be printed and sent to me within the next couple of weeks! Alright, so the demographic of people receiving these won’t be particularly high, but I hope that I’ll be able to persuade some book shops to give them out free to customers for me. If they go down well, there’s no reason that I won’t be able to get some more made in the future.
Having the time to write enough articles to keep the site updated three times a week is becoming more and more difficult to do. Not particularly because I don’t have any ideas – that isn’t the case at all – but simply because of the time restraints that are slowly creeping up on me now that University has got the whip cracki— I mean, gotten the ball rolling. My priority over the next two weeks for I.Q. will be to get some more writers for the site. (So if you’re reading this and want a go, even if it’s just going to be a one-off, please don’t be shy to get in touch!).
We’re still here and running smoothly however, which has to count for a lot in this day and age of casual ‘opinion blogging’.
